Applications in Steel & Foundry Chemicals

Expandable Graphite is material based on natural graphite with excellent insulating properties. When heated to 900ºC it expands several times, depending on the grades used. It is extremely effective when used with normal exothermic or insulating type anti-piping compounds, casting powders and bottom poured teeming compounds.

 

 

Features and Benefits:

• An addition of 1 to 10 % of Carbofoil Expandable Graphite increases effectiveness, thus reducing the volume of other materials used by up to 50%.
• Easy addition and better and efficient feeding.
• Prolongs the liquid state of metal, thus avoiding shrinkage.
• Insulating Compounds do not introduce any impurities in the riser metal.
• Riser heads can be safely remelted.
• Rejection due to shrinkage cavities totally avoided as it gives a very soft crust and a soft shrinkage pattern
• Economical in use.
